TIME is an online exhibition that represents the work of St. Lawrence University’s graduating class of 2021 studio art seniors. Due to COVID-19, the course was taught entirely online, and the students’ works will be featured in two separate web-based exhibitions, this being the first.

The seminar course focuses on students’ development of creative style and conceptual content through self-directed work that is ready for display. Responding to the essay 2020 Was A Time Warp, artists worked in a variety of media and formats to explore how perceptions of time have shifted due to changing routines, often seemingly endless waiting, and other social upheavals. In addition to creating their own work, students were responsible for photographing it and for writing artists’ statements.

Within the making of the work comes each student’s artistic freedom but also a responsibility for its content. Students are advised by the art faculty directing the course, but ultimately the final work is the students’ own. The Department of Art & Art History encourages you to give direct feedback to the student artists represented in the exhibition, since they have not yet graduated. You can send comments to Amy Hauber, Associate Professor of Art, HERE, or Melissa Schulenberg, Professor of Art, HERE, who will then work with the artists regarding your feedback.
